Antalya’s First Regional Hospital (Åžehir Hastanesi): A Milestone in Earthquake Resilience
Anticipation is building as Antalya, a vibrant Turkish city, gears up for the inauguration of its first and only city hospital. What sets Antalya’s First Regional Hospital apart is not only its state-of-the-art infrastructure and cutting-edge technology but also its groundbreaking approach to seismic resilience.
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Turkey establishes regional hospitals as healthcare facilities. Regional hospitals are structuring themselves as large regional health complexes, unlike public hospitals and training and research hospitals.
The intended purpose is to meet the diverse healthcare needs of the residents in the region by incorporating every type of health unit with advanced technological and medical capabilities.
The city’s inaugural city hospital is set to unfold in the district of Kepez, sprawling across 372,000 square meters. The landscape groundwork has already commenced, signaling the imminent launch of a groundbreaking healthcare institution.
Hospital Features and Facilities
Cutting-Edge Medical Technology:
Equipped with the latest medical devices, the hospital aims to commence patient admissions shortly after finalizing its healthcare personnel roster.
Comprehensive Medical Departments:
Structured into five blocks with a capacity of 1,400 beds, the hospital will house general, maternity, and pediatric wings, alongside oncology and cardiovascular departments. The facility boasts 246 intensive care beds, 300 clinics, 43 operating theaters, and a spacious parking lot accommodating up to 3,000 vehicles.
Regional Impact and Service Scope
Antalya’s First Regional Hospital is not confined to catering solely to Antalya. It extends its reach to neighboring regions, including Isparta and Burdur, functioning as a regional hospital.
Seismic Isolators: A Shield Against Earthquakes
Importance of Seismic Resilience:
In the aftermath of the 7.7 and 7.6 magnitude earthquakes centered in KahramanmaraÅŸ on February 6th, the significance of seismic resilience in healthcare structures became abundantly clear.
Hospital Construction:
The hospital’s construction incorporates 718 seismic isolators strategically positioned between columns, ensuring minimal damage even in significant seismic events.
Unique Flexibility in the Face of Tremors:
These isolators, placed in the gaps between the foundation and the building, allow the building to flex up to 32 centimeters in any direction during an earthquake, minimizing the risk of damage.
