Record Tourism for Turkey in 2023
According to a senior official on Saturday, Turkey is anticipated to end the year with record tourism receipts and visitor numbers. This underscores the significance of Antalya, the Mediterranean hub, in terms of both cultural and tourism-related factors in respect to record tourism for Turkey in 2023.
“Turkey has been setting records, particularly since last year. It has begun to outperform its own records. As the year draws to a close, we aim to close it with records for both visitor numbers and revenue. “Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the minister of culture and tourism, spoke at a meeting in the Muratpaşa neighborhood of Antalya.
During his speech, he underlined Antalya’s importance for the tourism industry and cultural values, saying the city is a top priority for the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
He talked about the boom in Antalya’s tourism and cultural scene and the increasing funding for archaeology and excavation projects at several locations.
“Antalya will emerge as the destination with the most tourism-related revenue. Great cultural activities are also happening,” he said.
“As a ministry, we began to prioritize cultural events more in 2022 and 2023. The minister clarified, “We ensure the revitalization and restoration of our cultural values, vigorously continue excavations at our sites, and support the return to our provinces and districts, all while supporting all these events.”
He also discussed initiatives aimed at boosting visitor experiences, such as illuminating historically significant sites and enticing travelers to venture outside of hotels to explore the nation more broadly.
According to official figures released last week, a record 15.37 million tourists traveled to Antalya and Alanya, Turkey’s most popular vacation destination, between January and November of this year.
The numbers from the provincial Office of Culture and Tourism show that during the 11 months, the number of visitors to the city increased by 16.3% compared to the same time in 2022.
According to the data, the number of tourists who arrived in the city in November alone increased by 0.7% from the same month the previous year to around 405,000.
Antalya exceeded the number of tourists it received in 2019, which is frequently referred to as the “golden year” for tourism. At that time, it recorded an all-time high of 15.28 million visitors.
This year, Turkey hopes to earn $55.6 billion from tourism, with 60 million international visitors expected by the government.
